GUI Overview
Input
Use this to control the level of signal coming into Orion.
The top numerical reading shows the peak level of the input signal, which turns red when clipping (going over 0dB). The second numerical reading is the RMS value of the signal - both of these readings can be reset by clicking them.
The green target represents the intended level for Orion's gain staging. This can be ignored for creative uses when desired.
Drive
The Drive module offers 3 color modes (a, b & c) each offering its own distinct characteristic. Thehi pass applies a high-pass filter post Drive processing.
Harmonics
The Harmonics module adds excitement and energy to the kick drum and other low-frequency information. This focussed processing can be switched between 50Hz and 80Hz.
Compression
The Compression module offers two modes (a & b) with a mix control which applies more or less compression. Jaycen aims for between -1db and -2dB of gain reduction.
Lift
The Lift module adds saturation and harmonic excitement across the full frequency spectrum helping glue your drums together. An additional focus on the higher frequencies helps bring your drums forward, adding more presence and transient detail.
Harmonic EQ
The Harmonic EQ is comprised of five fixed bands that allow you to boost and adjust harmonic content at each of the marked frequencies. A little goes a long way here, with small 1dB increments making a significant difference.
Compare A → B
Using the A & B options in the top right of the GUI allows you to quickly compare the sound of two separate plug-in settings. This is perfect for exploring different approaches to your mix and applying different characteristics without losing your previous parameters or having to run two separate instances of Orion.
The → symbol lets you copy the current plug-in parameters from A to B.
Parallels
This section allows you to add various forms of parallel processing into your drum mix:
-
Sub- adds additional impact in the sub-frequency range. -
Low- gives weight to elements in the low-end frequency range. This is useful for adding boom to kicks or warmth to basslines. -
Loud- adds extra perceived loudness and presence to the signal without increasing the overall output. -
Grit- Further accentuates transient information.
Output
Controls the overall volume of the output at the end of the signal chain.
As with the Input, the top numerical reading shows the peak amount of input volume and the second numerical reading is RMS value.
